Jesus on Singleness - Matthew 19:12
Series: The Quotable Jesus Topic: Singleness Passage: Matthew 19:8–12
It is somewhat surprising but encouraging that the Bible, though promoting marriage and families as normative for the human experience, does not despise singleness. Jesus, single himself, did not portray it as a liability (to one's shame) or a license (to one's independence), but as a calling. It allows the single person to express devotion to God in a different, more contentrated way than married people.
