The Lord's Servant - John 13:1-38

April 3, 2022 Speaker: Brian LoPiccolo Series: Gospel of John

Passage: John 13:1–38

To follow Jesus you must first let him serve you. It was incredulous, offensive, and embarrassing to the disciples that Jesus should humiliate himself as their rabbi and wash their dirty feet at Passover. The episode revealed that they did not understand what the Servant of the Lord, the King of Israel, had come to do: serve. Until we allow Jesus to serve us sacrificially and submissively we cannot follow him. Until we become willing servants after his example, we cannot serve each other and our neighbors well.  Jesus came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).
