Moved to Belief - John 19:1-42

The Crucifixion must move us toward a response to God’s love. We are moved to terror, then sorrow, and finally love at what Jesus endured for us during his Passion.  The horrific, shameful, and painful ordeal of his trial, beatings, crucifixion, and death should invoke some response in those who read about it. But John’s desire was to move his readers toward a love for the man who endured so much for us, that we might believe in Jesus. Our affection for Jesus rises out of our terror and sorrow for what he endured. When we consider the cross, knowledge must give birth, through faith, to love.
